We're a little crazy, about science!

Time off!

Today was the last experiment that I’ll be doing for the next couple of weeks and since classes are over it’s time to kick my feet up and relax. Okay, not really. There are still some odds and ends that I will probably be working on while I’m “taking a break,” but overall I’m excited to not have things I NEED to do. I’ll probably be doing some house stuff too, but hey at least its a change.

With the holidays here everyone at the hospital is taking time off or doing other things to help others take some time off. I’m hoping (which probably won’t happen) that my Co-PI will get a break, we’ve been hard at work for a bit now and I don’t know how he does it. For me though, I need regular intervals of time off. It’s just a mental health issue.

Let’s face it, we’re living though some really stressful times. Doing human research during a pandemic was not a good choice on my part, even though when I made the jump I had no idea the pandemic was coming. Let’s just call it bad timing, then again I don’t think there’s ever “good timing” for a pandemic. Since this all started, almost a whole year ago now, I’ve had several health issues that have cropped up due to stress and other stress related issues. My mental health has had more ups and downs than a rollercoaster, and if I had to be perfectly honest, I’m barely hanging on most days. I’m sure more than a few of you who read my blog can relate!

That’s why it’s so important to have some time to just not do anything. Normally I get a day, or if I’m lucky two, to attempt to accomplish absolutely nothing. With the holidays I get a couple of weeks. Probably just two, but that’s two more than I normally get. The nice thing about taking that much time off consecutively is you don’t really feel the “oh no back to work!” pressure as the one day off comes to an end. Instead I’ll get a nice (hopefully) semi-stress free period where I can focus on things I want to do, or say fuck it and do nothing at all. That’s the fun part about taking time off.

Now that I’ve done my little goal of blogging every day, I’m off to kick my feet up, put on some comfy pajamas (instead of my comfy work pajamas) and for today at least, I don’t want to do anything else! Okay, I’ll probably read, but that’s something I really enjoy!

But enough about us, what about you?
