Day 359: Car problems

Engine

Thought it was the PCV valve, but nope…

Well if things weren’t bad enough as it is with my own little world, we get to add car troubles to the list. Dealing with issues like this during normal times isn’t so bad, besides the bill that is, but this isn’t normal times. Nope, we’re dealing with a pandemic, school is about to start, and to top it off, I firmly do not have the money to fix the damn car, what’s a guy to do?

Last summer, or maybe the winter prior I complained about everything breaking, which I am still trying to sort though, there was a lot of bills involved in order to get everything fixed. To add to that, both of my cats have needed medical care over the past couple of months that has left me broke. Oh I also had a lovely plumbing issue that I needed to get fixed before my attic flooded.

Basically it’s never a good time when things break, but it’s an even worse time when they decide to go all at once. The cat stuff alone I could deal with. The plumbing issue alone, not a problem. The car stuff, well that’s always expensive, but I could make it. Together though, well that’s a strain on the budget where there wasn’t much wiggle room to begin with!

This is all just stuff that has occurred recently too, not months apart, like weeks apart. It’s been one thing after another and its left my budget and my health in shambles. What’s worse is that this is all necessary things. I can’t just forgo not having a car when I need it to get to and from the hospital/school. I can’t let my cats go without care. I mean I guess I could, but what kind of monster would I be if I did that? I certainly couldn’t let my house flood. So bills on top of bills basically.

Right now I’m not sure how much the car repairs will cost. It’s definitely not something I can do myself though and I am a pretty handy mechanic, so that’s a shame. Anyway long story short, life is ganging up on me at the moment so now I’ve got to go try to solve another issue. I really don’t like the idea of having to rent a car during a pandemic or having to go to the mechanic and interact with people during a pandemic, but sometimes I don’t get a choice. I just hope the people I’m about to interact with are smart and wear the mask. Either that, or I need to find a new mechanic.

  1. Oh I felt your post. I have had those same thoughts roll around my head many years ago, even before the pandemic. I hope you get your car fixed, not sure of where in the world you are but if you are in the CV there is a very nice mechanic and very trustworthy, he even didn’t charge us to fix our AC, he just hit, banged on a spot in the car and got it to start working again and that was over 6 months ago. Mazdas have an issue with the AC. It is actually a family of mechanics but still. Anyhow, hope things get better ๐Ÿ™‚ Be safe!

    • Unfortunately not in cali anymore! I’m out in texas these days, but just until I finish my PhD, then I’m hoping to come back. What is it about things that makes them all want to break at the same time? Anywho, thank you for the help! You stay safe too!

      • My friend had a saying that went something to like this…”If I fix the house the car will get jealous, if I fix the car the roof will cry in the rain…” Ha ha!
Wow, PhD! Way to go and enjoy the journey I know it is hard but it will be so worth it I have a few friends that have completed that long journey ๐Ÿ™‚
