The due data

It’s time, my data and the results from the experiment are due today. Okay, if we want to get technical the due date is tomorrow. HOWEVER, and that’s a big however, I need to get it to my PI today to review before I submit it. Which means he needs to see it today so I can send it off to the center for review.
I’ll still have until December to finish the rest of the data processing, but for now I need to submit SOMETHING to them. At least that’s the idea. It’s been some work to get to this point (see my last few posts on ill timed computer issues!). I think I’ll make it though, at least one dataset out of ten will be done today.
I could attempt to do more, but why do that to myself when I can submit the minimum and finish the rest for the meeting? As my PI said, it’s okay to surprise them and it will definitely be a surprise. I am doing the bare minimum to meet this deadline and even then it’s going to be excruciatingly close. There is still a lot to do after I submit it and I don’t know that I’ll finish it all in time, but I’m going to try and now that I’ve got all the data preprocessed and my computer working again I can focus on the important parts of this process instead of being distracted with a lot of other stuff.
So today I need to create some plots, 48 to be exact and they won’t be anything groundbreaking. I mean they will because the dataset is unique, but it won’t be as informative as it could be. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t interesting things going on in the data thus far either, it just means that I’m only scratching the surface of what the data will tell us and the more interesting stuff will come when we meet.
In any case, today I’ll be rushing to finish everything and to be fair I’ve spent the past 4-5 hours already getting it done, but the end is in sight! I have the data segmented, processed, and ready to plot! I haven’t plotted it yet, but if the code I wrote did what it’s supposed to do then the next few steps should be a matter of organizing the plots and making them look nice for my PI. That could take some time, but only because I haven’t designed them yet.
I have some trusty plot code that is my go-to for when I plot, but these are topoplots, they are a visual representation of the scalp and I’ll go over what those look like in a different post and why they are so useful for EEG data visualization, but for now I have so much work to get done that I don’t have time to do it today, maybe tomorrow after I hit my deadline though, we’ll have to see.
In anycase, that’s the update for today. I’m going to make it I think! With that, it’s back to work I go.
But enough about us, what about you?
