We're a little crazy, about science!

Dear data gods

We have offered our typical sacrifice of blood, sweat, and some might even say excessive amounts of tears. Yet clearly we have offended you and we are not sure how or why. We ask that you forgive our ignorance and help us understand how we can fix this. We are humbled and sorry, we should not seek higher truths, yet we must continue.

There are some higher dimensional beings that are unhappy with the work that we’ve done. We followed the ritual exactly. Prepared our experiment, reviewed, and re-reviewed. We tested the equipment the day before. We created files and guides, outlines and slides. We checked our connections and created new tools. We coordinated with the others in our dark enclave and read from the sacred texts. Yet, we should’ve known that we had lost the favor of our beloved data gods. We are but mortals prying secrets from a dark room with blunt tools and the combined force of our will.

We apologize to our beloved gods for our ritual was not sufficient and we did not listen to your warnings. The day of our experiment the equipment stopped working, it was then we should’ve known that our offering was insufficient for the secrets we were trying to pry free. Yet we plumbed the depths of the darkness, we repaired the equipment and moved on undeterred.

We know not what dark entity we called upon us that day, but as the experiment progressed and things continued to go wrong we should’ve turned back. We could not because we are curious beings and do not pay heed to the dangers that lay before us. We summon powers far beyond our understanding in the futile attempt to control and know what cannot be fathomed.

“None but those who have experienced them can conceive of the enticements of science. In other studies you go as far as others have gone before you, but in a scientific pursuit there is continual food for discovery and wonder”

– Mary Shelley, Frankenstein

We continued the arcane ritual and summoned knowledge of the old ones that we were not meant to have and for that we paid dearly. We were struck with Eldritch madness. For a brief moment the secrets to the universe unfolded like a beautiful song and just as quickly the knowledge of that moment was taken from us. The memories linger, but the knowledge we had was lost to the ages, never to be reclaimed again.

So what does this all mean? Well, this is just my dramatic way of saying the data we saved was somehow corrupted. Yep not as fun saying it outright. Never fear though, we are working with the company who made the software we used to recover the data, but who knows. The good news is that we have a copy of most of the data via the clinical tech side of things. However, and this is a big HOWEVER, we had a lot of data they did not. Soooo yeah, not sure who we made angry, but clearly the experiment is cursed.

Anyone have a spare necronomicon laying around by chance? I mean, how much worse could it get?
